Handiskins Final 2021

On Saturday 13th November we hosted our Handiskins Final after 5 weeks of 54 members battling to finish in the Top 4 on the leaderboard. The tournament was fiercely contested with the top placings constantly changing through the event and coming into the final round anyone in the top half of the leaderboard had a realistic chance of playing the Skins Final.

At the end of Round 5, it was talented golfers Brett Ridley, Gary Reid, Michael Wappett and Quang Le who rose above the pack to qualify for the Final and contest for the $1200 on offer. Commiserations to Peter Trethewy and Warren Keen who unfortunately missed out on a countback.

The finalists didn’t have ideal playing conditions on the day of the Final with strong winds whipping up. It didn’t seem to worry Gary on the 1st tee though as he hit his opening tee shot to within a foot of the hole and an easy $40 in the bank.

The next 4 holes were halved before Brett pounced on the 6th hole to claim the $200 jackpot. Then on the 7th hole which was the first of the $60 holes, Michael kicked into gear to start his account, before the next 5 holes were all squared.

So off to the 13th hole for a jackpot of $380 and a chance for all 4 players to take the lead. Again it was Brett with nerves of steel who managed to prevail and take an unassailable lead. Fortunately for Quang, he manages to break the drought on the 14th hole and the one skin for $80.

The next 3 holes were squared which resulted in the final hole of the day 17B jackpotting to $320 but again the hole was tied so each player received $80. At the end of proceedings, it was Brett who was crowned Hurstville’s Handiskins Champion for 2021, which was a fitting result as he was the number 1 qualifier and was also seen regularly practising in the lead up to the final.

Final Standings:

Brett Ridley – $780
Quang Le – $160
Michael Wappett – $140
Gary Reid – $120
