Golf Tip For Inconsistent Putters

If you struggle to get the correct speed, and alignment and find yourself short or long with your putter alignment, practice this set-up drill.

Hold the putter out in front of you with your arms stretched out with the putter face square. Bring your elbows to the side of your body.

Tilt forwards from your elbows until the putter touches the ground and rise up your chest slightly to get the correct posture.

In this position with your elbows tucked to your side, the engine of your putting stroke now becomes your forearms.

After practice, this sets you up in a centred ball position which is easily repeatable. The best thing about this setup is the hands remain quiet and the forearms “rock” the stroke and swing the putter.

If you watch golf on tv, you will observe the best players all working on keeping their elbows tucked into their bodies. From this position, all you need to do is practice putting from various distances (6ft up to 30ft) with an emphasis on speed control.
