17 Feb When It Rains, It Pours!
The drought conditions well and truly broke with some good rainfall allowing the course to green up beautifully. Then the rain bomb hit hard with 425mls falling on our golf course within a 3 day period. Remarkably our resilient golf course was back open the next day, unlike many other local courses that were completely underwater. The soggy conditions forced golfers to tee up through the green, which is better than no golf at all. Unfortunately, the same couldn’t be said for all our cart and bike riders who eagerly waited for things to dry out a little more.
The wild conditions also brought down a few trees on the course including a big gum tree on the 18th hole which crushed the boundary fence, knocked over a telegraph pole, brought down the power lines and put the whole neighbourhood out of power for an indefinite period. Thanks to Georges River Council and the Stowe Electrical team the golf club and pro shop were back with power within 24 hours with the help of a 20 KVA generator.
