COURSE UPDATE cover

It’s been an extremely dry summer at Hurstville Golf Course, placing significant pressure on both the course and our dedicated grounds team.

Despite the challenging conditions, the staff have worked tirelessly to ensure the greens remained in outstanding condition, using extensive hand watering during periods of extreme heat to keep surfaces healthy and consistent.

The fairways, however, felt the full effects of the dry spell. Water shortages during the first two weeks of January left them very firm and dry. While these conditions provided plenty of extra run off the tee, they also made approach shots with irons, hybrids, and woods more difficult to control.

Thankfully, relief arrived in mid January with a weekend of much needed rain. In preparation, the grounds crew had already been hard at work spiking the greens, roughing up the fairways, and applying tonnes of fertiliser to encourage recovery and promote new growth.

Since then, the course has responded well. The fairways are steadily greening up, and we’re seeing encouraging growth across the course. That said, consistent rainfall will still be key to achieving full coverage and optimal playing conditions as we move through the remainder of summer.

We thank our hardworking grounds team for their ongoing efforts and appreciate the patience and understanding of our members and guests. With a little more rain, Hurstville Golf Course will continue to improve week by week.

Keep your fingers crossed for a few more showers before summer’s end!
