An abundance of wet days has Hurstville Golf Course lush and greener than ever. And the rain has also been a blessing for the 3 greens that were extended, allowing them to settle in nicely.
With winter approaching, it’s difficult for the golf course to dry out and we all need to be mindful of course care when the ground is extremely soft, especially golfers that require a motorised cart to play a round. Below are some tips to help keep your course in the best shape possible throughout the wet season.
Carts Drivers
There will be many days where carts are not permitted on the fairways. It’s extremely important that drivers stay in the rough and on cart paths were provided (holes 2, 7, 9 and 11). Drivers should drive their cart in the rough just off the fairway where cart paths aren’t present, park level with their ball and then walk out to play their ball from the fairway. The wettest fairway is always the 12th hole, so please make sure you use the right side rough for the entire hole. And under no circumstances should carts be driven within 10m of the greens. It’s in everyone's best interest that all drivers abide by these rules, as our ground staff will be more likely to allow carts out more often.
Repair Divots
With the ground much softer, our divots become larger. Please ensure everyone in your group is carrying a sand bucket and replacing their divots on every hole. It will help the grass regenerate quicker. There are plenty of sand stations around the golf course to refill your buckets. And when you complete your round, please return your buckets to one of the stations near the 1st & 10th tees. There’s even some new blue storage containers near the Course entrance in case you forget.
Pitch Marks
The greens are very soft during winter which causes larger pitch marks on our greens. Even lofted chip shots played around the greens can cause markers that need to be fixed. Please make sure you always look around for the pitch mark your ball has created and you're using your pitch repairer on every green.
