Friday 29th of May: Due to wet course conditions, carts are not allowed on the golf course today

Member Spotlight

This month, we had the pleasure of catching up with Phil, a long-time member of Hurstville Golf Club and a familiar face on our fairways. As a regular participant in club competitions, Phil perfectly embodies the welcoming and active spirit of our local golfing community.

The Power of an Early Tee Time

For Phil, the alarm going off for an early tee time is something to look forward to. He loves nothing more than getting out for a morning round with his mates to kickstart the day.

Beyond just keeping his swing dialed in for competitions, Phil is a strong advocate for the holistic benefits of the sport, noting that regular play significantly boosts both his physical and mental well-being.

"I love the camaraderie with my golf buddies and really enjoy being out in nature."

A Veteran's Advice for New Golfers

Golf can be a notoriously challenging game, and it is easy for beginners to get frustrated. When asked what wisdom he would pass on to new players joining the club, Phil’s approach is refreshingly grounded.

To truly enjoy every round, he recommends adjusting your perspective:

Protect Your Mood: Do not let a few bad shots or your overall performance dictate your mood for the rest of the day.

Look Beyond the Scorecard: Focus a little less on the numbers you are writing down and more on the social interaction and laughs you share with your playing partners.

Enjoy the Environment: Take a moment between shots to soak in the surroundings and appreciate being out in nature.

Next time you see Phil teeing it up early at Hurstville Golf Course, be sure to say hello!
