Honouring National Reconciliation Week: “Bridging Now to Next”
At Hurstville Golf Course, we proudly acknowledge and honour the rich histories, cultures, and contributions of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. As we approach National Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June), we invite our community to join us in a collective journey of reflection, education, and action.
This year’s theme, “Bridging Now to Next”, calls on all Australians to deepen their understanding and commitment to reconciliation. It’s a call to move from intention to impact—to honour the past, engage meaningfully in the present, and shape a more equitable future together.
First Nations Leadership in Health, Fitness & Sport
Across the country, First Nations communities continue to shape and lead in the world of sport and wellbeing:
- Indigenous Marathon Foundation: Over 100 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander runners have completed global marathons since 2010, serving as role models for healthy, active living.
- Elite Sports Excellence: First Nations athletes represent 12% of AFL and 10% of NRL players..
- NAIDOC Week Sports Carnivals: Every year, these community events connect thousands through inclusive, culturally rich sporting celebrations.
A Proud Step Forward: BlueFit’s Reflect RAP
As we reflect on the importance of this week, we’re proud to share a significant milestone in our reconciliation journey.
BlueFit’s first Reflect Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) has been formally endorsed by Reconciliation Australia. This marks a meaningful step forward in our long-term commitment to fostering culturally safe, inclusive spaces across the 60+ communities we serve nationwide.
While the BlueFit Reconciliation Working Group is currently planning the formal launch of the plan, we are excited about the opportunity it represents—to embed respect, equity, and shared knowledge into every layer of our organisation. Our RAP will guide us in building stronger relationships, creating pathways for First Nations participation, and ensuring our programs reflect the diversity and cultural strength of the communities around us.
